Venomous Spiders in Maury County
- Brown Recluse — Extremely common in Middle Tennessee. Found in cardboard boxes, closets, behind furniture, inside shoes, and in attic storage. Columbia's older homes and the agricultural outbuildings surrounding town provide extensive harborage. Bites cause necrotic tissue damage.
- Southern Black Widow — Found in crawl spaces, garages, wood piles, and outdoor structures. More common on rural-edge properties with unmaintained ground-level debris.
Spider Management
Reducing insect prey is half the battle — fewer bugs means fewer spiders. We treat harborage areas with residual products, remove webs and egg sacs, and deploy sticky traps for population monitoring. Brown recluse populations decline gradually over weeks after treatment — they're cautious spiders that avoid treated surfaces, so patience and consistent monitoring are essential.
