Cockroach Species in Columbia
Columbia deals primarily with two cockroach species, each requiring different treatment.
- German Cockroaches — Small indoor roaches that breed in kitchens and bathrooms. A single female produces 30-40 offspring every three weeks. They hide in cabinet hinges, behind outlet covers, under appliance motors, and in every crack within reach of food and moisture. Apartment complexes along Nashville Highway and Bear Creek Pike see persistent populations due to shared walls.
- American Cockroaches — Large reddish-brown roaches that inhabit the sewer system and crawl spaces. They enter homes through floor drains, pipe penetrations, and foundation cracks, especially during summer storms. Columbia's older downtown infrastructure provides extensive underground habitat.
Professional Treatment
German cockroaches get precision gel bait in their actual harborage zones — not surface spray that scatters them. American cockroaches get drain treatment, foundation exclusion, and crawl space residual application. Different species, different products, different placement.
